The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) was established in 1951 under the West Bengal Secondary Education Act of 1950. The board is responsible for regulating and supervising secondary education in the state of West Bengal. It is also responsible for conducting the Madhyamik Examination and declaring the results.

Students who are not satisfied with their marks can apply for re-checking or re-evaluation of their answer sheets. They can do so by filling the required application form and submitting it to the board along with the prescribed fee.
